Those interested in special needs education can apply to the "Master of Education in Social Sciences" program at the University of Cologne. Over the course of 4 full-time semesters, a diverse variety of courses are introduced into the curriculum in order to build on students' prior knowledge and mold them into specialists capable of handling the rigors of everyday professional life. Admission requires a Bachelor's degree with "appropriate teaching certification" and "compatible" subjects, as well as proof of at least 144 relevant credit points from completed courses.
