Description
Gender Identity has become a very controversial topic in recent years. Gender Studies programs aim to understand gender identity and representation, sexuality and feminism, in their historical and contemporary sense, through in-depth analysis and exploring subjects like Women's Studies, Gender, Justice And Change, Sexuality Studies, Social History, Community Activism, Trans Lives and Theory, Race and Racism, Gender Issues, Anthropology of Gender, Masculinities, Queer Theory, Social Constructions, Genealogies and Theories and others. The purpose of Gender Studies degree courses is to provide knowledge on current social issues and work towards finding solutions for them through practical work and internships, as well as encourage volunteerism and activism in order to promote advocacy for people in disadvantaged positions. Students in Gender Studies develop strong research, communication and analytical skills, a sense of justice and possess motivation to solve issues like sexual violence, body image, the pay gap, discrimination and oppression. Career prospects for graduates are various and include many fields of work – counseling, education, child advocacy, social justice work, violence prevention, market research, teaching, public health, youth work, crisis help and many others.
