The University of Giessen, founded under a different name by Landgrave Ludwig V of Hessen-Darmstadt in 1607, is a public university seated in Giessen, Hesse. It accomodates round about 28,600 students and eleven faculties. The faculties break down in the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Cultural Sciences, the Faculty of History and Cultural Studies, the History of Language, Literature, Culture, the Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science, the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics, Geography, the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences and Environmental Management, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and the Faculty of Medicine. The range of studies includes conventional Bachelor and Master degree programs (including teacher degree programs), English-language programs (“Anglophone Studies“, “Agrobiotechnology“, “Choreography and Performance“, “European Master in Comparative Vertrebate Morphology“, “Global Change: Ecosystem Science and Policy“, “Insect Biotechnology and Bioresources“, “Master in International Law“, “Transition Management“) and other international programs, furthermore joint degree programs, joint double degree programs, as well as continuing education programs (“Pediatric Dentistry“, “Magister Juris Internationalis“, “Magister Legum, “Psychological Psychotherapy“, “Sports Law“), and certificate course. Depending on the respective program, the following degrees can be obtained at the University of Giessen: B.A., B.Sc., B.Ed., M.A., M.Sc., M.Ed., LL.M., and State Examination.
