The University of Hamburg, founded in 1919, is a public university seated in Hamburg. It is supported by the Behörde für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Gleichstellung (Ministry for Science, Research and Equality). With round about 42,000 students, it constitutes one of Germany’s largest higher education institutions.
