The University of Kiel offers the two-subject degree program “Bachelor of Arts in Sports Science (Teaching at Grammar Schools Profile)” for a period of 6 semesters. The academic calendar begins in the winter semester and the course leads to a teaching position at grammar schools following graduation. During this course, applicants will learn the fundamentals of the sport science course, both theoretically and practically. An emphasis is placed on evaluating and optimising athletic motions, in addition to the technical basics of sports medicine and sport sociology as well as sport education and sport psychology. The study of sports science provides students with a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of sports. Candidates will also get a certificate in swimming instruction. Students have previously demonstrated their sports motor abilities in a sports aptitude exam at the beginning of this degree, and their physical fitness for sports is documented by a medical certificate.
