STUDYING IN BADEN

Baden bei Wien is home to the University of Education Lower Austria (PH NÖ), established in 2007 and responsible for the training of teachers in primary and secondary education within the state of Lower Austria. The University supports three locations, of which the main one is in Baden and the other two are in Hollabrunn and Melk. Students coming for their higher education here can choose from eight Bachelor of Education programs and five Master of Education programs. Along with the study programs the University also offers a variety of training courses in different social and pedagogical areas. The University welcomes international students. It has an International Office on campus that assists them with enquiries about registration, Erasmus projects, accommodation and other aspects. Unfortunately, the University does not offer any student residence halls on campus, therefore incoming students will have to look for accommodation prior to their arrival or once they are in Baden. Rooms and shared flats are offered on the private housing market in the city and can be found online or through a rental agency. The average monthly rent might vary depending on the type of the accommodation and its location but it is usually between 350 and 600 EUR.

Baden is an ideal location for living, studying and working as it offers a great environment for personal development and a peaceful atmosphere with numerous recreational opportunities. The University, too, provides leisure and sporting facilities such as a gym, an indoor swimming pool and athletics track where students can exercise and stay in good shape. Moreover, within the city and its surroundings one can also practice a wide range of sports such as horse riding, tennis or even skiing and snowboarding in winter. Travel enthusiasts can also benefit from the favorable location of the city and travel to bigger cities like Vienna or Wiener Neustadt within less than an hour.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN BADEN

Graduates from the University of Education Lower Austria will be trained and educated in order to become successful teachers in either primary or secondary education. Towards the end of their studies each student who took a Bachelor’s degree course should be able to practice the teaching profession in the respective occupational field. The Master program, on the other hand, enables students to teach children and adolescents with special learning prerequisites, or to work in special schools. Graduates will be able to practice their profession only in the Lower Austrian state. Living and studying in a foreign country sometimes demands higher expenses, which is the reason why so many students also have to work. Working while studying in Austria is allowed alright, but it strongly depends on one’s country of residence.
