At the heart of the Alps in the Swiss canton of Valais lies the charming city of Brig-Glis with a population of 13,000 people. The current Brig-Glis ws created in 1972 as a result of the merger of the three individual cities Brig, Brigerbad and Glis. Today the city represents an interesting blend of the peculiarities and characters of each city hat have been living as one harmoniously for nearly 50 years. Strolling down the historic squares with its beautiful buildings and magnificent landmarks like the Stockalperschloss, the city radiates joy. Winters here are quite cold, with average snowfall and temperatures dropping below 0 °C, with the coldest month being January. Summers, on the other hand, tend to be hot and dry with average temperatures ranging between 19 °C and 28 °C, with the wettest month being August. Brig-Glis is well-connected to other cities in southern Switzerland via road and railway. From here cities like Sion, Thun and Bern can be reached by train within less than hour and a half. The local public transport is serviced by city buses operating in all districts of Brig-Glis.

STUDYING IN BRIG

The Swiss Distance University of Applied Sciences (FFHS) was established in 1998 as a nationally recognized higher learning institute. Today the university has four locations, namely in Zurich, Basel, Bern and Brig, and a total of about 2,300 students. One can choose from a wide range of degree courses at both Bachelor’s and Master’s level, with a focus on the fields of Economy, Law, Health, Computer Science, Engineering and Psychology. Although providing a distance learning study model, one of the key priorities of the university is to offer innovative course that combines e-learning with traditional education methods while giving its students as much freedom as possible .
