Hannover is a city in Germany located in the federal state of Lower Saxony. Its total area of 204.01 km2 makes it the biggest city in the state and it's capital while also is the thirteenth-biggest city in the country. Hannover has a population of 535, 000 inhabitants and one-fifth of them are actually foreigners, mainly coming from Turkey, Poland and Syria in order to live, work and study in the city. In fact, almost 17,000 Turkish people are currently living in the city of Hannover and even though German is the official language, it is a common thing to hear the Turkish language on the city’s streets. The climate in Hannover is considered oceanic and is characterized by warm summers and cold winters. In December and January, temperatures are below 0 °C and in summer, temperatures go up to 23 - 25 °C. Germany is famous for the unique, excellent and reliable public transportation network available in all of the cities, and Hannover is not an exception. In fact, the main train station of the city – Hannover Hauptbahnhof, is a hub of the well-known ICE high-speed rail network. The trains connect Hannover with other cities in Germany, as well as with other major European cities such as Amsterdam, Brussels or Zurich. Hannover’s public transportation networks also consist of buses and tram lines which connect each and every part of the city. Only eleven kilometers north from the city of Hannover is located the Hannover/Langenhagen International Airport which happens to be the ninth biggest German airport. The airport offers direct flights to major business destinations in Europe, as well as some leisure and exotic places, including Tenerife and Malta.

STUDYING IN HANNOVER
Hannover is an amazing city which attracts thousands of students from around the world, thanks to the high quality of education that universities based in the city provide. The largest higher education institution in the city of Hannover is The Leibniz University Hannover, also called Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover. Founded back in 1831, it is also among the oldest universities in the Federal Republic. The university offers a variety of degree courses – over 190 different courses in 38 fields of study to be exact. Even though the majority of the courses are only taught in the German language, there are numerous also offered in English as a main language of instructions and therefore they are suitable for international students. In fact, the higher education institution is home to over 25,000 students currently, and more than ten percent of them are coming from foreign countries. Student accommodation is a delicate topic for every prospective student. Sometimes, it can be hard to find the balance between quality and price. However the most common, and at the same time the cheapest option for student accommodation in Hannover is living in a student hall of residence, also called student dormitory. In the city of Hannover, there are sixteen different types of student dormitories offered to students. The prices for rooms in a dormitory in Hannover can vary a lot – between 200 and 380 EUR per person, depending on the type of building and room the student is assigned. However, the universities cannot guarantee every student a room in one of the student halls, since the places available are less than the amount of the students in the city. There is a total of 47,000 students in Hannover and the student dormitories can offer rooms to only 2,400 of them. Every student who wishes to live in a dormitory should apply as early as possible in order to have higher chances of getting a place. Fortunately, students can also arrange private accommodation for themselves and find a room to rent in a shared flat or rent a one-bedroom apartment only for themselves. One room in a shared flat in Hannover comes at the price of 320 to 500 euros per person, depending on the apartment’s location. One-bedroom flats cost between 400 and 550 EUR per month, including all the bills.

The beautiful city of Hannover has something to offer to pretty much everyone. So does the Lower Saxony State Museum in the city. The museum offers four different departments that exhibit history, ethnology, fine arts, and archeology. From Renaissance and Baroque galleries in the fine arts department to dinosaur models and an aquarium in the ethnology one, this is a must to be visited in Hannover. Another interesting museum situated in the city is the museum of the history of aviation. There, visitors can enjoy the exhibition of 36 aircraft, together with other 30 piston and jet engines and almost 700 models. For those who prefer spending time outside in the park or in a beautiful garden, Hannover has the ideal place to offer. Approximately four kilometers away from the city center people will find the beautiful and one-of-a-kind Herrenhausen Gardens. The impressive Great Garden, for example, is the most famous and important baroque garden in Europe. The ideal combination of fountains, flowers and beautiful sculptures is bringing many visitors to the city of Hannover just to enjoy a long walk in nature and take some pictures from the stunning place.
