Kufstein is located in the Austrian state of Tyrol, with the river Inn flowing right through it. It is the second-largest city in the state with more than 19,000 inhabitants. Lying between two mountains and surrounded by beautiful nature with green forests, meadows and nature reserves, the city’s atmosphere is very calm and peaceful. The long history of Kufstein can be nowadays seen in its museums and medieval buildings, the most popular one being the Kufsetin Fortress dating back to 1205. The weather here is rather temperate, with the inner alpine mountain climate being predominant due to the location of the city. Summers here are nice and warm with temperatures varying between 16 °C and 25 °C. Winters are mild with temperatures dropping below 0 °C and usually characterized by the presence of thick snow coats. Kufstein’s infrastructure makes the city well-connected with other regions in Tyrol and easily reachable by train, car or intercity buses. The local public transport is serviced by city buses with three lines running about every 20 minutes or so.

STUDYING IN KUFSTEIN
Established in 1997, the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein has become a leader in business and management with multiple award winnings over the years. Currently there are over 2,000 students enrolled with representatives from over 50 nations, making the student society diverse and multicultural. The university offers 12 Bachelor and 12 Master degree programs in the fields of Economics, and Engineering and Business Administration. High teaching standards with a unique combination of academic and practical knowledge define the outstanding reputation of the university and its achievements in supporting students to develop a successful professional career. Furthermore, the university has implemented an obligatory semester abroad, which allows students to broaden their horizons. Students who are coming to Kufstein and would like to rent an apartment during their studies can choose between finding a place on the private housing market and staying in an international student residence (ISR). However, it must be considered that availability at an ISR is limited; applicants must submit their requests as early as possible. The university has its own student residence, comprised of four houses with a total of 55 single and 35 double studio apartments right on the bank of the Inn river. The accommodation is only 15 minutes away from the campus and ten minutes away from the Old town center. The average price for a room starts from 340 EUR and includes some utility bills.

Regardless of its size, Kufstein offers a variety of leisure and cultural activities bringing some vibrancy to the otherwise calm environment. The Tyrolian natural landscapes are ideal for those who wish to spend a day or two exploring nature while hiking or camping. Whether in summer or winter, the region offers free outdoor experiences helping newcomers to indulge in the local culture and traditions. Various events take place all year round, from festivals and fairs to concerts in the fortress and culinary specialties served on the streets of Kufstein’s Old town center. Students can find lots of things to do in their free time like going to the cinema to see the latest blockbusters, or visiting the adventure water park (featuring an outdoor pool, sauna and a skating rink) in winter. Night entertainment can be also quite exciting when visiting one of the local bars and pubs where live music performances and stand-up comedy shows take place frequently. During the day there are other activities like shopping down the Inn Promenade or going to one of the cafés and restaurants where delicious traditional and international delicacies are served.
