Landshut is a city in the south-east part of Germany, located in the federal state of Bavaria. The city’s total area equals 65.7 km2, and there are over 70,000 people living, working and studying in Landshut. STUDYING IN LANDSHUT
The local University of Applied Sciences Landshut, founded in 1978, has nearly 5,000 students, approximately twenty percent of them are coming from all around the world. In fact, every year, more and more exchange students apply for the university in Landshut and spend several months studying in the city. The higher education institution aims at giving students a practice-oriented education, rather than providing them with mere theoretical knowledge. The university offers a number of degree courses students can choose from, including Business Administration, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Social Work, and many others. Even though the main language of instruction at the higher education institute is German, there are still numerous degree courses that are also offered in English. After choosing a destination, a degree course and a university, applicants need to think about their student accommodation, too. In the city of Landshut, students can choose between living in student halls of residence and finding private accommodation themselves instead. However, students usually tend to look for something that will not cost much money but at the same time will have everything they need. In Germany, student dormitories are considered the cheapest and most convenient type of student accommodation. In Landshut, accommodation in the student dormitories is provided by the Student Welfare Service of Lower Bavaria/Upper Palatinate. What students need to be aware of is that places are strictly limited and it is better for everyone who wants to get a room in the dormitories to apply through their university as early as possible. Students have also the option to rent a room in a shared apartment or even a studio in the city just for themselves. For a single bedroom in a shared apartment close to the city center, students will most probably pay between 240 and 320 EUR per month, while studios come at the price of 400 to 480 EUR per month.

The city of Landshut might be small but has a lovely colorful architecture and even simple evening walks feel somehow different and cozy. Apart from the beautiful buildings, the city center is full of great shops and amazing cafes situated on every corner. Among the most famous ones is Café Belstner where over 150 different types of cakes and sweets are offered together with the best coffee in town. Sunday mornings can be very tasty if spent there. Prospective students are usually curious to know about what to expect in terms of nightlife in their chosen study destination before they are ready to head out. And the city of Landshut has a lot to offer, including an exciting nightlife. The Sausalitos bar in Landshut is the most favorite place of all students, both local and exchange ones. It is really different from any other student bar. In the bar, there are three separate areas painted in three different colors, each of which represents a different type of music and mood. The best cocktails and draft beer in town are offered there, and prices are still good. Students love it.
