Nordhausen is a German city in the federal state of Thuringia. It extends over a total area of 110.86 km2, and there are more than 42,000 people living, working or studying in the city. German is the official language spoken in the city. The climate in the city of Nordhausen can be defined as warm and temperate with significant rainfall during the year. Winters in the city are rather cold and windy, while the summers are really nice and warm. The hottest months are July and August when temperatures usually go up to 22 to 23 °C. From December through February, it is around -1 to 2°C. Just like every other city in Germany, Nordhausen also offers to all its inhabitants a very good and reliable public transportation network. There are several bus lines that serve the city and connect each and every neighborhood of Nordhausen with the city center. Erfurt is situated only sixty kilometers away from Nordhausen and can be reached by train in an hour: the city of Halz is only half an hour away by train. Both cities are great destinations for weekend getaways.

The local Hochschule Nordhausen, also known as Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1997 and currently is home to approximately 3,000 students. The higher education institution offers both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, including Business Administration, Public Management, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, and many others. Even though German is considered the main language of instruction at the university, there are still numerous degree courses that are entirely taught in English. Moreover, the higher education institution welcomes many exchange students from all around the globe every semester, including from Asia and the United States. After choosing where to study and what to study, future students need to think about the next important aspect of their study process – student accommodation. Student accommodation is a very delicate topic for every prospective student, especially for those who are going to study far away from home. One-bedroom apartments and studios are more expensive – between 550 and 700 EUR per month with all the bills included.
