Oestrich-Winkel is a splendid little town nestled in the Rheingau-Taunus district in the state of Hesse. Famous for being the largest wine-growing community in the state, Oestrich-Winkel is the home of around 70 world-famous wineries. The city has much more to offer with its friendly flair, favourable location, and rich historical heritage. Oestrich-Winkel is a town with a character. A walk down the narrow streets of the city will unveil more about the city’s history that can be seen still to this day on the facades of the traditional houses and buildings. The city hides many gems such as the Schloss Vollrads, a castle that is also one of the oldest wineries in the world that makes wine for more than 800 years now, or the “Grey House” – the oldest stone house in Germany. With so many magnificent landmarks and beautiful landscapes, Oestrich-Winkel is a preferred destination for tourists, which undoubtedly contributes to the internationality of the city. The city has a mild climate with warm summers and cold winters. From June to August temperatures vary between 21⁰C and 24⁰C, whereas during the coldest month, which is January, temperatures drop to 3⁰C or lower. Located on the Rhine only 20 km west of Mainz, Oestrich-Winkel has a good position. Furthermore, the city can be easily reached thanks to the Oestrich-Winkel railway station and the federal highway that run through the city. Moving around the city is also quite easily done with city buses, cars, bikes or even by foot. Thanks to the university located here and the popularity of Oestrich-Winkel as a tourist destination many other languages can be heard here apart from German, which makes it easier for newcomers to adapt faster.

Oestrich-Winkel is home to the Rheingau campus of the EBS University of Economics and Law, a leading private university founded in 1971. Based at the Reichartshausen castle, the university is one of the oldest private higher education institutions for business administration in Germany.
