Rottenburg am Neckar (previously only Rottenburg) is a town located, as the name suggests, on the banks of the Neckar river, in the administrative district of Tübingen in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is situated in one of the most beautiful regions in Germany – between the Swabian Alb and the Black Forest, and in addition to the stunning landscape, the town displays a picturesque architecture from various historical periods. Rottenburg am Neckar is an episcopal city, meaning that it is the seat of a Roman Catholic bishop. The town’s cathedral is called Dom St. Martin, and Stiftskirche St. Moriz church has interesting infrastructure that features Gothic and Baroque elements. Rottenburg am Neckar is a town of roughly 40,000 people. It is the second-largest city in the district after Tübingen and is therefore a secondary community center. The official language is German. The town is located about 50 km south of the state capital Stuttgart and 12 km south of Tübingen. It is easily accessible via railway and motorway. However, the most convenient way to get around the city is by bicycle. The average annual temperature in Rottenburg am Neckar is 9 °C, so the climate is moderate, but with a significant amount of rainfall. The cycle pathway Neckartal-Radweg runs through the town of Rottenburg am Neckar. The most popular path, Neckartal Cycle Path, leads through the old town in Rottenburg am Neckar.

STUDYING IN ROTTENBURG AM NECKAR
There are two higher education institutions located in Rottenburg am Neckar –Rottenburg University of Applied Forest Sciences, and The Catholic University of Church Music Rottenburg. The Rottenburg University of Applied Forest Sciences is a public university established in 1954. It currently accommodates around 1,000 students. The university specializes in sustainable development, which makes it unique in its approach. The Rottenburg University of Applied Forest Sciences offers Bachelor’s degree courses in Sustainable Regional Management, Renewable Energy, Water Resource Management, Forestry and Timber Industry, and Master’s in Forestry, Resource-Efficient Construction and Sustainable Energy Industry and Technology. All courses are taught in German only, but for first-year students unconfident in their level of German, there is a pre-semester language course. ERASMUS exchange programs are also available. The Catholic University of Church Music Rottenburg is an academy of music that currently accommodates around 40 students. It offers a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree program in Catholic Church Music, and the Master’s provides specializations in Choir Conducting, Organ Score-Reading and Sight-Playing. Students can also study Singing and Piano. All courses are taught in German. The aim of the Catholic University of Church Music Rottenburg is to prepare students for part-time work in church service as a choir conductor and organ player. The student organization Studierendenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim provides a student accommodation facility ten minutes away from Rottenburg University of Applied Forest Sciences. Private rooms and apartments for rent are also available with starting prices of about 200 EUR per month.

Rottenburg am Neckar is a town with a long history and a charming atmosphere. Buildings that span eight centuries are located in the old town and city center, and the Sülchgau Museum exhibits early Roman influences from the whole area. The Market Square, the old town chapel, the Bochinger Schlössle and the diocesan museum are other popular tourist attractions. In Rottenburg am Neckar you can enjoy the beautiful nature and go hiking to Wurmlinger chapel which stands on a hill overlooking the town, go on a boat ride along the Neckar river, or simply take a stroll in the park.
