St. Gallen is a small but really cozy Swiss city located in the northeastern part of the country. St. Gallen’s total area amounts to 39.41 km2, and there are over 75,000 people studying, living or working in the city. Currently, approximately twenty-seven percent of the people in the city are actually internationals coming from other countries, including Germany, Serbia, and Italy. More than eighty percent of the inhabitants living there speak German as a first language, while Italian is the second most common among them. The climate in St.Gallen can be defined as subarctic, which is characterized by relatively cool and wet summers and very cold winters with significant snowfall. During July and August, temperatures are between 20 and 22 °C, while in January and February, they are between -2 and 0 °C. Just like in every city in Switzerland, in St. Gallen, too, the public transportation network is excellent and extremely reliable. It includes a railway, bus lines, as well as trams. They all connect each part of the city with the city center fast and easy. The city has also a good connection with major destinations in Switzerland and Italy. A single journey from St. Gallen to Zurich, for example, takes only an hour by train. Every day, there are more than ten trains leaving from St. Gallen and going to or through Zurich main train station. Founded in 1898, the University of St. Gallen is a research university that is considered the smallest university within Switzerland. Despite its size, the university is currently home to almost 9,000 students and one-third of them are actually internationals. The institution is mainly focused on three areas, namely economics, business, as well as law. Usually, the Bachelor degree programs are entirely taught in German, while Master’s and doctoral programs are also offered in English as a language of instruction. When it comes to student accommodation, students often look for a balance between quality and price. TRISCHLI is maybe the most popular dance nightclub in the city that organizes different events almost every night. A famous bar among students, which is located only a few meters away from TRISCHLI club, is The Room. The Room is a spot which can satisfy every kind of taste in terms of music preferences.
