Idyllically situated in the Main valley in Lower Franconia, Würzburg is home to more than 120,000 people. The city is the sixth-largest one in Bavaria and is also the home of the oldest university in the state. The historical heritage here is as rich as in most of the cities around the country, with well-preserved half-timbered houses, churches and museums. Some of the most popular buildings worth visitors’ attention are the Würzburg’s Residence, Marienberg Fortress, and Würzburg’s cathedral. The public transport network is covering all districts, with the backbone being the five tram lines. Additionally, citizens can also use city buses operating frequently or cycle around the city as most of the people do. STUDYING IN WÜRZBURG

Würzburg is home to three higher learning institutes of which the most attended and notable one is the University of Würzburg (also known as the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg), which is a public research institute founded in 1402. It currently has nearly 29,000 students, of which more than 2,500 are international students. The university offers a broad range of 250 degree programs taught across ten faculties. Some of the disciplines covered are Catholic Theology, Medicine, Arts, Natural Sciences and Business Management. The second most attended university is the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt with currently nearly 10,000 students. Studies here are more narrowed and focused on Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering. Both universities are looking after the multicultural diversity amongst young adults studying in Würzburg. Therefore, each institute is very open-minded towards individuals with foreign backgrounds and partnerships with other universities across the world. There are several student residences in various locations in the city offering single and double rooms in shared flats that are fully furnished.
