Description
Civil Engineering is a field of Engineering that focuses on the conception, design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure projects and private and public systems like roads, buildings, sewage, bridges and tunnels. In general, civil engineers are responsible for the appearance and functionality of the environment we live in, as well as improving and protecting it. Civil Engineering is one of the oldest forms of Engineering and it operates both in the public sector through municipalities and governments, and the private sector in terms of private homes and international companies. The most common subjects taught in Civil Engineering programs include Environmental Engineering, Mechanics of Materials, Computational Tools for Civil Engineers, Structural Theory and Design, Computer Aided Technical Drawing, Algorithms and Programming, Linear Algebra and Differential Equations, Applied Mathematics, Basics of Architecture and more. One of the most important applications of Civil Engineering is natural disaster resistant design, so students are encouraged to develop high awareness, social responsibility and valuable skills like planning, design management, creative problem-solving, critical-thinking and decision-making skills. Potential careers for Civil Engineering graduates can be found in construction management, transportation engineering, quality control, nuclear engineering, building control and other sectors.
