The postgraduate degree “Master of Music in Composition” at the Berlin University of Arts has a standard period of four semesters and is distributed into modules on composition, music theory, aesthetics, as well as two focus modules, which accumulate 120 ECTS. Courses are taught only in German. They create highly artistically prepared professional composers. For this purpose, teaching forms are mainly individual and the guidance of university professors at all times is essential. Although becoming familiar with all available techniques and means of artistic expression, what students should primarily achieve is the cultivation of thir own intrinsic voice and improvisation manner, so the historical genres are deconstructed into flexible individual design. The facilities to use are fully technically equipped to the modern standards. Students’ accomlished composition pieces will be professionally recorded and published.
