Description
The six-semester program “Bachelor of Arts in Costume Design” at the Berlin University of Arts is conducted in German through a modularized project workshops and experimental research form, which gives the scientific, manual and artistic skills for designing stage and film costumes. Costume design is interpreted as a technological, humanistic, cultural and social phenomenon, so a holistic interdisciplinary approach is reflected in the teaching methodology. The first semester is identical for all students, but from the second on, the study program is differentiated into the fields of study Product Design and Fashion Design, whereas from the fifth semester onwards, students have the option of working on a project from the other field of study or from the Architecture/Visual Communication courses. The Studium Generale of the UdK Berlin "Diversity in Dialog" is also integrated in the course to ensure the holistic program standpoint. Students develop the ability to draw upon fundamentals of complex comprehensive nature which influence the conception, development and design of a costume.
