For the gifted outstanding students, there is a possibility to continue their studies at a Master of Arts program “Opera” at the Berlin University of the Arts. It comprises four semesters and further develops the vocalists’, musicians’ and actors’ individual artistic talent and personality. The pre-selection procedure evaluates the video recordings presented by the candidates. These are two diverse Arias (one with recitative) from different epochs, one Lied (art song), and a drama text in German (from a play or movie, not an opera, poem, ballad or novel). The program is timed into modules, whose successful completion is proof of the student’s achievement. Throughout the course of their studies, graduates count with the close supervision of their academic advisors, as well as the collaboration from the Symphony Orchestra of the Berlin University of the Arts. Apart from classical music, the curriculum engages contemporary music, as well. The Department of Early Music and the Institute of New Music support this endevour. Opera productions, concerts and lied recitals are presented both at the UNI.T and at other prestigious venues.
