The Berlin University of the Arts offers the Master’s program “Master of Arts in Theatre Education” in German for four semesters and combines creative, didactic and dramatic elements. Theory and practice give good basis for the individual artistic style of expression to emerge and flourish. Work is structured into modules of group and individual lessons, research and teamwork. The subjects are diverse and include movement, breathing, voice, improvisation, stagecraft, direction, narration, among others. Educational sciences also complement the pedagogical profile of the degree. Eligibility criteria allows for students with diverse background to enter the program. The specific qualifications of the participants also add value to the study process. The admission examination takes the form of a workshop, in which the candidates’ artistic abilitis are shown. The purpose of the course is to give basic artistic, pedagogical and didactic skills for working with non-professional theatre groups, schools, or social organisations by teaching the basics of theatre performance in all its aspects.
