The Bochum University of Applied Sciences, founded in 1971, is a public institution of higher education specialized in engineering and business. It accomodates more than 6,000 students. The Bochum University of Applied Sciences is Bochum’s second largest institution of higher education. Its study offerings include Bachelor and Master degree programs in six departments: Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geodesy, Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Mechatronics and Mechanical Engineering, as well as Business. Some departments also provide the opportunity of completing an extra-occupational study program. The department of Business provides international study programs at partner schools located e.g. in Great Britain, Spain, Ireland, France, as well as six binational (in part double degree) programs. Within the scope of the vocational education program “Cooperative Engineering Education“, students complete their studies while undergoing an apprenticeship in the metal and electrical trade. Among such dual programs are the degree courses “Civil Engineering Dual“, “Mechatronics and Information Technology“, “Mechatronics and Product Development“, “Computer Engineering“, “Electrical Engineering“, “Geoinformatics“, “Mechanical Engineering“, “Mechatronics“, and “Geodesy“.
