Description
The Catholic University of Applied Sciences Berlin offers the Bachelor’s degree “Bachelor of Arts in Social Gerontology (extra-occupational), which focuses on the psychosocial situation of vulnerable, chronically ill and elderly people for whom concepts of support and accompaniment are still largely lacking. This course consists 8 semesters for a standard period of study, and 6 semesters after crediting professional experience. It is also funded by the federal government, the federal states and the European Union that have developed a study concept, by which students receive scientific and methodological expertise, in order to help the challenges in gerontological practice in innovative and lifestyle-oriented manner at the interface of health, care and social work. The entry requirements for this Bachelor’s degree include a three-year training in geriatric care, as well as in health and nursing care, plus at least one year of professional experience in gerontological practice. The applicants without this specific can demonstrate their suitability via a classification test. During the studies, at least 50% of professional activity within the gerontological fields is required and the participant in part-time training are obliged to provide the university of applied sciences with evidence of their continued employment.
