Health Economics is an academic discipline that focuses on the efficiency of distribution and consumption of healthcare and health services. Health Economics studies health systems and behaviors that affect health on a societal level, such as smoking and alcohol consumption. Some of the topics concerning Health Economics include demand and supply of health services, health insurance, pharmaceutical distribution and evaluation of health systems. Health Economics is important because it aims to efficiently utilize medical resources and optimize healthcare benefits.
