The Center for Jewish Studies Heidelberg, founded in 1979, is a state-approved private institution of higher education seated in Heidelberg, Baden-Wuerttemberg. It is sponsored by the Central Council of Jews in Germany. The Center provides study opportunities at Bachelor’s and Master’s level to round about 110 students. The Bachelor programs on offer are “Jewish Studies“ (B.A., with the portion of general studies counting as 75 %, 50 %, or 25 % of the total study course), “Jewish Religious Studies“ (B.A., with a teaching option), and “Practical Jewish Studies“ (B.A.). The scope of Master studies includes the programs “Jewish Studies“ (M.A.), “Jewish Studies – History of Jewish Culture“ (M.A., Joint Degree), “Jewish Museology“ (M.A.), “Medieval Studies“ (M.A., in partnership with Heidelberg University), and “Classical and Modern Literature“ (in partnership with Heidelberg University). Being a higher education institution with the right to confer doctoral degrees, the Center for Jewish Studies Heidelberg also offers a doctoral program (Dr. phil.) in Jewish Studies.
