The study program “Stage Setting and Costume Design” offered by the Dresden University of Fine Arts (HfBK Dresden) is a ten-semester program with a study prerequisite of general higher education entrance qualification or proof of special above-average artistic talent and proof of passed aptitude test. The course is primarily focused on the artistic concepts behind the creation of stage sets and costumes. The participants are expected to develop their own individual style according to the preferred literary, musical or other art references. The theoretical part of the study program complement the extensive real theatre practice. Students will gain deep knowledge on the presentation of their creative ideas with the help of drawings, story-boards, photographs, films, etc. An important part of the course is the capability of the participants not only to create a memorable narrative through their set and costumes designs but also to motivate their findings and put the art into a more broader historical, social, and cultural context.
