The postgraduate study program “Theatre Design” offered by the Dresden University of Fine Arts (HfBK Dresden) is an eight-semester program with a study prerequisite of general higher education entrance qualification or advanced technical college entrance qualification or, in individual cases, proof of special, above-average artistic ability instead. The course is primarily focused on the combination of Theatrical Painting, Theatre Sculpture, Make-Up or Costume Design. Those are the fields that the graduates can pursue a career in afterwards. The program examines the artistic concepts behind all the elements of the theatre design. The participants are expected to develop their own individual style according to the preferred literary, musical or other art references. The theoretical part of the study program complement the extensive real theatre practice. An important part of the course is the capability of the participants to put the art into a broader historical, social, and cultural context.
