Description

The global objective of the Bachelor's degree programme is to equip students - interprofessionally trained on a solid medical foundation - with the necessary basic biological knowledge, practical skills and abilities and communicative competence to take on complex tasks of dental diagnosis, prevention, therapy and aftercare within the framework of delegable services in the care of healthy people and patients with dental, oral and maxillofacial diseases. This includes the ability to relieve the dentist within the framework of the Dentistry Act by setting up and managing prevention areas and to support him/her in meeting the changed practice requirements due to demographic change and the shortage of specialists.

To this end, they acquire basic knowledge of the now undoubtedly proven complexity of periodontal caries sequelae (malnutrition, stress, tobacco consumption and other parameters damaging the status of general health) and the complex treatment competence in the field of dental hygiene necessary for their causal control. Finally, there is an empowerment not only to have the traditional basic competences in the field of professional cleaning of teeth and implants, but also to help implement an integrative interprofessional therapy and prevention concept, which includes the close and active collaboration of the dental team with internists, immunologists, nutritionists, psychologists and other medical experts.

This ensures the high standard of the courses in the further development of competences and the ability to incorporate acquired theoretical and scientific knowledge into practical work. On the one hand, this involves deepening professional knowledge and the ability to reflect on one's own work by means of current quality standards, among other things. On the other hand, the students are able to analyse and assess scientific work with regard to its significance for diagnostics and therapy practice and to submit follow-up strategies to the dentist or to recognise failures in compliance at an early stage.

Furthermore, communicative skills for personal self-reflection and situationally appropriate conversation, education, counselling and conflict resolution are developed, one's own personality development is promoted and one is enabled to participate as a citizen. The degree programme concludes with the academic degree "Bachelor of Science".
