The study program “Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering”, offered by École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in French, endows individuals with technical understanding and skills necessary to develop and design infrastructure projects. The course of studies teaches how to participate in and contribute to long-term projects concerning parts of bridges, buildings, dams or tunnels as well as water and energy delivery systems, and protection against natural dangers, or transportation planning. During their projects students become aware of how important it is to take into consideration factors such as sustainability, environmental impact, and territorial development. They familiarize themselves with all the crucial elements that civil engineering encompasses, including design, planning, and execution of infrastructures as well as their maintenance and use. Apart from basic sciences, classes also deal with topics such as statistics, geology, structures, materials, soil and fluid mechanics, structures, and hydraulics. Practical projects are central to the program, allowing students to demonstrate their creativity and develop solutions. Graduates can find many career opportunities in engineering fields, or more particularly: civil, transportation and water engineering.
