Description
The main purpose of the French-language program “Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences and Engineering” at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne is to give individuals a solid foundation of knowledge regarding a wide range of subject areas concerning the environment. Students learn more about complex issues such as climate change, scarcity of resources, increasing human population, and loss of biodiversity. In order to be able to find sustainable solutions for these concrete environmental problems, environmental engineering heavily relies on modern technologies, and more particularly biotechnologies. Students get acquainted with a framework of ecosystems as a method to manage the responsible use of natural sources of water, soil and air. They acquire fundamental basic knowledge of mathematics and physics. Later in the course the emphasis is put on environmental science and engineering techniques. Studies consist of classes such as environmental chemistry, microbiology, soil science, and atmospheric physicochemistry as well as hydrology for engineers, sanitary engineering, water and waste management, and quantitative methods. Graduates can find employment in engineering consulting firms or environmental consulting firms.
