The study program “Master of Science in Environmental Sciences and Engineering”, offered by École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in French, is a relevant choice for candidates who have completed a degree in Environmental Engineering or related areas. The course of studies provides students with an in-depth knowledge and skills to think of solutions for current serious issues such as climate change, limited resources, pollution, human population growth, and loss of biodiversity. More particularly, the program centers on environmental engineering in natural systems where solutions must be developed under conditions of incomplete information, spatial heterogeneity, and uncertainty. Students are also encouraged to look at contemporary problems including complex interactions that take place in built and urban environments. The three specializations that the program is divided into are: Environmental Chemistry and Bioprocess Engineering, Natural Water, Soil and Ecosystems Engineering, as well as Environmental Monitoring and Modeling. Another, alternative specialization is the Development of Regional and Urban Planning, on Energy or Biotechnology. Graduates are very likely to get a job in public administration, environmental-protection agencies, or distribution companies.
