Description
The French-language program “Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences Engineering” at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne is a mix of elements from a range of disciplines designed to endow students with comprehension of the recent technological changes. The study of life takes place through accurate observations which are a result of the ability to understand and control technology. Students familiarize themselves with the purposes and advances of modern science, including decoding the human genome, complex biological systems, regenerative medicine, and gene therapy. At first the course of studies mainly focuses on Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science. Later on there are classes on molecular and cellular biology, and chemistry. During their third year, students are offered two units: “Engineering” and “Biosciences”. Furthermore, they are given the opportunity to choose between “Genetics”, “Development Biology”, “Fluid Mechanics”, or “Structural Mechanics”. Graduates can expect to find a career in pharmaceutical industries, companies specializing in medical technology or biotechnology, as well as hospitals or analytical laboratories.
