The French-language study program “Bachelor of Science in Mathematics” at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne aims to provide individuals with fundamental mathematical knowledge and skills needed to analyze and describe various problems and phenomena. Students familiarize themselves with recent mathematical developments and the significant role that computers play in the creation of new mathematical models. They are introduced to different techniques and are taught how to solve old problems and explore new areas of research. The course of studies covers the basics of analysis, geometry, linear algebra, and general physics. It also includes new branches such as topology, operations research, probability, statistics, and numerical analysis. Apart from being given a chance to choose all of their classes in their third year, students are required to participate in two semester projects. Thanks to the broad training they receive, graduates can find opportunities in fields such as finance, banking, as well as coding, cryptography, and data protection in the communication-technology sector.
