The study program “Master of Science in Mathematics”, offered by École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in English with a few optional courses in French, targets individuals who have a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or closely related fields by a recognized university as well as excellent marks. The University encompasses three institutes and a research center devoted to fields of pure and applied mathematics. Students take advantage of the strong international reputation of the program, as thanks to EPFL’s partnership and collaborations with research groups and other universities, they face interesting interdisciplinary challenges. Studies provide students with an excellent command of fundamental mathematical tools and abstract reasoning. The core subjects include analysis, algebra, and geometry as well as topology and number theory. Overall, students obtain a high level of education in either pure mathematics or in applied mathematics. In order to be able to solve complex problems, graduates must have a strong foundation of analysis, abstraction and reflection. They can work in private companies, governmental institutions or in academia.
