Description

The main purpose of the French-language program “Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering” at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne is to endow students with comprehensive knowledge and strong skills in solid and fluid mechanics as well as in the field of heat transfer and applied physics. The course of studies is focused on adopting a scientific, holistic, and multidisciplinary research in order to identify and analyze problems and develop effective, innovative and sustainable solutions. Moreover, students learn how to adapt quickly and communicate within a constantly changing technological, ecological, and economic environment. At the beginning of the course they are introduced to scientific tools such as analysis, or physics. Their classes include “Introduction to Mechanical Engineering”, “Statistics”, and “Metals and Alloys”. In the second and third year, studies revolve around mechanical engineering, from automatic-control engineering to thermodynamics and vibration mechanics. The program is completed by a final project bringing together the different theoretical topics. Graduates are capable of working in areas such as the machine industry, engineering firms, or energy conservation management.
