Description
The French-language program “Bachelor of Science in Microengineering” at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne is designed to introduce individuals to the physical laws governing the miniaturization processes. The main educational objective of the course of studies is to provide students with a sound knowledge of the fundamental scientific principles of mechanisms barely visible for the naked eye, and skills needed for the use of efficient production techniques, such as robotics, atomization, and assembly techniques. The first year is mostly focused on the acquisition of scientific tools, including analysis or physics. Later on, students are given a chance to conduct practical work by taking part in a CAD project during which they need to design and develop an object. The course structure covers topics from all microtechnological sciences, such as Control Systems, Electronics and Photonics, as well as Products and Production. The career opportunities include working in industries relating to sensors and measuring instruments, medical and surgical instruments, optical instruments, clocks and watchmaking, or robotics.
