Description
The French-language program “Bachelor of Science in Physics” at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne is suitable for those interested to learn more about the mechanisms which control the structure and transformation of matter. Students are introduced to the theory of relativity, quantum physics, and the structure of DNA double helix. They are able to explore the components of matter, their properties as well as the forces they are governed by and their effects in a quantitative conceptive manner. After being provided with basic knowledge of analysis, linear algebra, and general physics in their first year, later in the course students study core physics topics such as analytical mechanics, quantum physics, statistical physics, and solid-state physics. Problem solving, in-depth research and practical work is a significant part of the course. Besides, students are given an opportunity to pursue their own interests by choosing between different options. Physics graduates are in high demand and enter a wide variety of careers in fundamental or applied research, management of companies or public bodies, and teaching.
