The Fachhochschule für Öffentliche Verwaltung, Polizei und Rechtspflege, founded in 1991, is a public university of applied sciences for public administration, police and judicature seated in Güstrow, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It serves as a facility for providing training and further training to individuals in the upper grade of the civil service. The University currently accomodates approximately 460 students. Prospective students are offered study programs in three departments: the Department of Public Administration, the Department of Judicature, and the Department of Law Enforcement. Studies relating to Public Administration combine knowledge of public law with practical knoweldge so as to enable students to manage the variety of public administration tasks. The study program “Public Administrations“ leads to a LL.B. degree. Studies relating to Judicature provide knowledge regarding all subject areas relevant to the profession of judicial officer, ranging from Family Law, Land Registration, Property Law and Register Law, through enforcement, basic questions pertaining to Civil Law, Criminal Law and Law of Criminal Procedure, right up to affairs relating to execution of sentence and civil proceedings and determination of costs, as well as State and Constitutional Law, issues relating to organization and administration, sociology, and electronic data processing. The study program “Judicature“ culminates in the Diplom-Rechtspfleger (Fachhochschule) degree. Law enforcement students either attend a three-year Bachelor program or an eighteen-month Bachelor build-up program (B.A.).
