Dance is the art of expressing feelings and emotions, and telling stories through movements. A degree in Dance Education prepares students to teach others how to convey their passion to the audience. Studying Pedagogy has many advantages, even if your end goal is not to become an educator. Dance Education helps students gain better understanding of their artistic expression, communicate and deliver a message more clearly and develop their artistic abilities. Subjects taught in Dance Education programs include Dance Theory, Choreography, Dance History, Dance Technique, Psychology, Stage Movement, Aesthetics and others. Naturally, a large portion of the degree course is spent rehearsing and practicing, in order to apply the acquired techniques in real situations. Teaching dance is very rewarding, but also highly challenging – Dance educators need stamina and good health, patience, extensive knowledge of dance history, different methods and choreographies, understanding, determination and willingness to work hard. Apart from dance teachers, Dance Education graduates can work as choreographers, studio managers, entrepreneurs, lecturers, instructors, community workers, dance therapists, among many other career prospects.
