The university certificate course “German as a Second Language” program at Heidelberg University of Education is a training course that is entirely online-based. Its main aim is to train the participants to teach the German language to pupils whose first language is not German. The course is divided into three thematic blocks: Basics of second language acquisition and language support in multilingual classes, Effects of flight and migration on identity and Methodology and didactics of DaZ lessons. During the self-learning phases, participants use e-learning courses to prepare and deepen the seminar times, acquire content, work on tasks and exchange ideas. Admission requirements include a university degree with at least 3 years of standard study time, professional experience as a teacher and German language skills.
