Description

The consecutive course “Master of Arts in Islamic Studies” at Heidelberg University introduces students to a non-confessional historical perspective in the examination of the history, society, literature and religion of societies formed by Islam in the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Europe. The program lasts four semesters and is in German and partially in English. The training applies philological methods for the cultural and regional study of the Middle East, North Africa, and Southern Europe. Students learn to analyze, interpret and investigate original texts written in Arabic, Turkish, or Persian. In addition, the course provides students to work with original texts in print, digital, and handwritten formats. The program offers two variants of study, either in language or a content area.
