Description
The course “Master of Arts in Musicology” at Heidelberg University has a duration of four semesters. The study examines music in all its theoretical and practical forms and contexts. The course comprises the entire historical musicology of Europe and European cultural areas from antiquity to the modern-day. The training includes a theory of composition and analysis, history of notation and composition, history of instruments and interpretation and more topics. Students broaden and deepen the knowledge and skills already acquired at the undergraduate level, and they are capable of distinguishing methodological and conceptual issues, broadening interpretive approaches and discursive perspectives, and other abilities. To apply, candidates must have a completed bachelor’s degree in music.
