The consecutive and joint degree “Master of Arts in Near Eastern Studies” at Heidelberg University has a duration of four semesters and is taught in German and sometimes in English. The program focuses on the humanities and social sciences and is a joint program offered by the University of Heidelberg and the Heidelberg University for Jewish Studies.  The syllabus incorporates the disciplines: Islamic Studies, Jewish Studies, Israel Studies, and historical and social science Middle Eastern Studies. Students acquire knowledge in the languages modern Hebrew, and Arabic, Turkish or Persian and extend their understanding of humanities and social science methods. The admission requirement is for applicants to have a bachelor's degree in Islamic Studies and Jewish Studies.
