The study course “Bachelor of Arts in Prehistory and Protohistory” at Heidelberg University lasts six semesters and is taught in German and, in some exceptional cases, in English. The course is an archaeological discipline that views material culture as a unique historical source of information about societies from the appearance of early man to the modern-day. The training with 25% weighting encompasses the periods of Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic, Copper Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. Students attend courses with practical and theoretical elements, training archaeological excavations, complete introductory courses, professional seminars and lectures.
