Description
The program “Bachelor of Arts in Semitic Studies” at Heidelberg University educates students of the Semitic languages from their first written records to the contemporary world. The goal of the course is to concentrate students on at least two Semitic languages such as Arabic and Aramaic. The major (50%) has a duration of six semesters and is in German and other languages. The curriculum incorporates three introductory modules and an advanced one. Students gain in-depth foundation in written and spoken Arabic and Syriac, as well as knowledge of Arab-Islamic culture and Christianity in the Near East. Graduates have career opportunities such as translator, writing, education, linguistics and tourism.
