The consecutive course “Master of Arts in Semitic Studies” at Heidelberg University explores the Semitic languages from their first written records to the modern day. The program examines three continents, from the Atlantic in the West to Uzbekistan and Afghanistan in the East, and from the Mediterranean to Ethiopia. The training lasts four semesters and is designed according to students’ knowledge. Students who complete the Bachelor continue to expand their knowledge, while others who take their first steps in the course learn the basics of spoken Arabic or Syriac. Graduates can begin a career as a translator, consultancy, education, linguistics, business and tourism.
