The study program “Bachelor of Arts in South Asian Studies” at Heidelberg University provides students with education on the geographical, social and economic aspects of South Asian culture combined with historical and philological aspects. The duration of the minor (25%) is six semesters, and the instructed languages are German, English, possibly South Asian languages. The course consists of compulsory elements such as an introduction and a seminar, and students can choose between two optional modules. Students receive fundamentals in historical, political and economic events and manifestations, languages and media, religions and geographical processes in the countries of South Asia. Graduates can begin a career in education, journalism, consultancy, linguistics and other fields.
