Description
Study transformative economics! If we continue to operate the way we do now, we will drive our planet to the wall. Transformative economics sets out to find ways out of this dead end - with the goal: a sustainable good life for all. Studying with us means exploring these paths together with others.
Economics: With us, you will study economics in an interdisciplinary, topic-oriented and plural way, from diverse perspectives, close to the major crises of our time - climate crisis, species extinction, threats to democracy, global inequality ... You will learn what economic and social structures and dynamics underlie them and acquire the tools to analyze them, drawing from diverse traditions; you will begin to understand them as changeable and take the first steps towards it, close to people who are already actively working on change and the concepts that guide them (post-growth, donut economy, circular economy, commons, common good economy, economy is care, etc.).
Sustainability: sustainability means: living society in a way that is environmentally and co-environmentally friendly. Given the speed and intensity with which we are plundering our planet, this is the central challenge of our time. At the same time, sustainability is controversial; because the transformation to a sustainable economy and society involves different goals, means, and ways, depending on worldview and interests, and because in the process we are traveling as a society through previously uncharted territory. You will study sustainability in its central aspects, learn about different ideas, and learn which dimensions you want to make strong and put into action.
Transformation: Whether today's economy ends in catastrophe or whether we can transform the way we do business so that it serves life sustainably will be decided in these decades. Change needs to be designed as quickly as it needs to be designed thoroughly. In order for you to be a part of this, you will study with us, both theoretically sound and hands on, how such design can actually be possible and effective. We will work on examples that are already driving social-ecological transformation today, and you will get to know key players as well as theoretical pioneers during your studies.
It is a concern of the University that all admitted applicants can study at the university, regardless of their financial background.
