Civil Law is the specific body of law that sets and protects the private rights of citizens. The main function of Civil Law is to provide legal solutions in order to settle disputes, most commonly regarding an injury to an individual or private party, like a corporation, for example. Civil Law also deals with contracts, torts, property and family law. The most common cases in Civil Law include property, debt, wills and crimes. Civil Law degree programs teach a number of subjects, such as The Civil Code, Law of Obligation, Property Right, Historical Basis of Civil Law, Employment Law, Inheritance Law, Family Law, Commercial and Corporate Law, Consumer Protection Law and more. Civil Law programs not only provide in-depth theoretical knowledge, but students also have the opportunity to do work placements and internships, which are an important part of the study in terms of applying legal techniques and developing analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, mediation, interrogation and negotiation skills, which are valued highly by employers. Potential career paths for Civil Law graduates include positions in law enforcement, civil rights protection, counseling, government and non-government organizations and other sectors.
