Description
Mechanical Engineering is a branch of Engineering that is concerned with the design and manufacturing of both power-producing and power-consuming machines. Mechanical Engineering uses concepts from engineering, physics, mathematics and materials science in order to produce and maintain the most efficient and best-functioning mechanical systems. The applications of Mechanical Engineering can be found in a number of places – from household equipment to power plants and electric generators. Mechanical Engineering university programs teach a wide variety of subjects which provide students with in-depth theoretical knowledge. Some examples include Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Structural Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Simulation of Mechanical Systems, Computer-based Measurement Technology, Product Development in Production, and more. Apart from theory, students in Mechanical Engineering are also provided with opportunities for practical projects and work placements in order to gain perspective of the industry and develop professional skills such as problem-solving skills, creativity, teamwork, verbal and written communication, analytical and critical-thinking skills, and the ability to work under pressure and utilize engineering methods. Potential career prospects for Mechanical Engineering graduates include positions in research and development, technical maintenance, quality control, equipment repair, and more sectors.
