The healthcare sector is experiencing above-average economic growth and guarantees well-trained specialists a successful career start. The “Management in Healthcare” course at the IST University of Applied Sciences for Management prepares you flexibly and practically for entry into this sector. You will acquire healthcare-specific specialist knowledge, business management skills and a comprehensive insight into key economic relationships in the healthcare sector. After completing your studies, you can, for example, work in personnel, quality or change management, as a company health manager or in an advisory capacity. This degree program prepares you to take on management positions in hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, outpatient and social facilities as well as health insurance companies or associations.

General Management modules provide you with fundamental know-how in the areas of management, law and business administration. You will acquire this specialist knowledge through content such as “Marketing - basics and strategies”, “Business informatics and new media”, “Business law”, “Corporate management and personnel management” and “Entrepreneurial decision-making principles”.  In specialization subjects such as “Healthcare sectors and care”, “Fundamentals of online marketing and social media”, “Project management in healthcare and social institutions”, “Hospital and social management business game” and “E-health and digitalization in the healthcare sector”, you will acquire specialist knowledge about and for the healthcare industry. You can also choose your personal focus of interest with exciting elective modules such as “Digitalization Management in Healthcare”, “Management of Nursing Facilities”, “Clinic and Outpatient Management” and “Business Psychology”.

To be admitted to the distance learning course, you need a general higher education entrance qualification, entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences or an equivalent school-leaving qualification. In addition, a three-month internship in the healthcare sector or three months of industry-specific work experience is required.

In order to be admitted to the course without an Abitur, a master craftsman's certificate, an IHK advanced training course or at least two years of completed vocational training with three years of professional experience is required. The course is aimed at both graduates and employees with commercial and administrative experience in the healthcare sector who are seeking a managerial position. However, the course also offers a good opportunity for nursing staff, physiotherapists and occupational therapists as well as career changers to gain an academic qualification.
